Michael Fisher began serving as VA Puget Sound Interim Director January 2013. As Director, his responsibility spans two divisions: American Lake in Tacoma and the Seattle division, located on Beacon Hill, as well as its network of seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), one Mobile Medical Unit, and a Fisher house. Additionally he has served as the Deputy Network Director since March 2008 and as the VISN Chief Financial Officer from May 2006 – March 2008. Previously he served as VISN 20’s Acting Network Director from January 2009 – April 2009.
Mr. Fisher has over 18 years tenure with the VA, beginning his Federal service as an Accounting Technician. He has direct experience in all aspects of federal financial systems as well as revenue, compliance and human resources functions. In 2007, he successfully completed VA's Health Care Leadership Institute Training, an advanced training program offered to a limited number of future leaders within the organization.
In his VISN 20 role, he is responsible for directing the operations of a consolidated healthcare network that serves Veterans throughout Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, as well as small portions of California and Montana.
Before coming to VISN 20, Mr. Fisher spent thirteen years at the VA Medical Center in New Orleans in a variety of positions to include Chief Financial Office. While in New Orleans, he recieved numerous commendations, particularly in recognition of his accomplishments during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Mr. Fisher recieved his B.A. in Accounting and CPA certification in 1994.
