Social Work Assistant: German Moya, (206) 277-6766

A social worker is assigned full-time to the Marrow Transplant Unit.  When you are scheduled for your pre-transplant evaluation at the MTU, the Social Worker will meet with both the patient and caregiver for final re-evaluation.

It is required by VA that each transplant candidate and their caregiver(s) be evaluated and approved by the transplant center prior to proceeding to the transplant.

If you and your support person(s)/caregiver(s) have been referred from a VA medical center other than VA Puget Sound’s Seattle Division, you will have this evaluation completed at your referring VA by a social worker prior to your arrival to Seattle for final evaluation.

If the VA Puget Sound Seattle Division is your home VA, MTU social worker Cathy Blanchard, will complete the social sork assessment that will go to VA central office as part of your packet to be approved for transplant.

You should work with the Social Worker at your referring VA and with your local Veteran's Service Organization (VARO, DAV, VFW, PVA, etc.) in completing any claims or applications for benefits prior to coming to Seattle as these claims can take many months to process.

NOTE: The MTU social worker does not always have available time to provide ongoing case management for disability claims. These issues should be addressed as soon as possible.
